ABOUT
Louise Keats is an Australian artist based in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Her practice explores light, atmosphere and spatial perception through luminous fields of colour.
Using a process developed through sustained experimentation, Keats creates surfaces in which colour appears suspended within the work rather than applied to it. Influenced by colour field painting and perceptual abstraction, her practice focuses on atmosphere, optical depth and the behaviour of light across surface and edge.
Tones bleed, dissolve and accumulate, producing subtle shifts in density, vibration and spatial tension that change with duration of looking. Working from a rural property at elevation, Keats draws from the experience of expansive sky, shifting weather and environmental stillness. While not directly representational, these conditions inform the spatial and atmospheric qualities of the work.
Each panel emerges through a process that resists repetition, resulting in singular works shaped by translucency, material interaction and time.
Her work is held in private collections in Australia and Europe.
